The national flag is one of the national symbols and is therefore displayed when we want to emphasize belonging to the state, as during war, national holidays or national sports matches, or state participation, as during international conferences, fairs, visits of statesmen, etc.
The frequency of hanging the national flag varies between different cultures, but hanging is subject to certain rules that have been formed in the Western world. Thus, the national flag must always be hung in such a way that the colors are arranged in the right order from top to bottom, and in the case of vertical hanging from left to right. If the flag has a coat of arms that is not centered, as the Slovenian one is, it must be in the upper part of the flag when it is hung vertically.
The coat of arms, flag and anthem of the Republic of Slovenia indicate affiliation with the Republic of Slovenia. Since joining the European Union in 2004, Slovenia, as a member of this international community, has also adopted its symbols, flag and anthem of the EU.
